We currently drive a 2017 Ram 3500 Dually with the Big Horn Trim. We chose this vehicle because it has a towing capacity of 18,500 lbs and payload of 5,500 lbs. When towing, it gets 10-13 Miles per gallon depending on terrain. When the fifth wheel is unhitched, it gets about 18-20 mpg. Choosing between brand like Chevy, Ford, and Ram is really personal preference, but in test driving both the Ford F350 and the Ram 3500, the Ram had a smoother ride even without towing.
Our fifth wheel is a 2018 Jayco Eagle HT 30.5 MBOK. We chose this model because we liked having a rear view, but also a mid-bunk with full-sized beds for the kids. At just under 36 feet, we could also fit into many Federal and State campgrounds. Fully loaded, it weights around 11,500 lbs so well within our limits.
